Spring came early this year in Charleston. By February, I was noticing azalea buds and by March we had blooms all over the city. I was especially inspired by the light peaking passed homes, and the shadows showing off new growth.

With works on canvas and on panels, I was able to use different techniques to express shape and color. From tiny jasmine blooms to giant old live oak trees, I wanted to remind you of the sights, smells, and feelings of a walk through Charleston in the springtime.

I was mesmerized this year by the constant flow of flowers at Hampton Park and surrounding Colonial Lake— every week something new was blooming.

My curiosity led me to the Charleston Parks Department’s greenhouses, hidden right near Hampton Park. Housed here are of some of the most interesting flora and fauna, tended to here until ready for planting.
