I am thrilled to be releasing my fifth ‘Al Fresco’ collection! So many have asked, and I have wondered myself, would becoming a mom change me as an artist? I didn't really have an answer because I wasn't sure until I got back in this studio. Now, I know it did! There is a sense of fullness in life since having Dean, and I can feel that coming out in the pieces. Also, time feels more precious. When entering the studio my brain is saying "Let's create something magical!", and I get going! There are so many shifts in life (not just having kids) that can change your creative process, or ignite new excitement. So, while it's here, I am really leaning into it!
This year’s ‘Al Fresco’ collection is all about COLOR. In college, I had a professor who spoke about my color intuition. He said that when I would let go and play, my intuition would take the lead. It was these words that would ultimately help me let go of “art school expectations”, and find my style.
With Professor Lorenzo on my mind and Dean teaching me so many new things, I've leaned into the posture of play: bold patterns, high contrast light + shadow, and exciting color combinations. Not every line is perfect. There are dots and dashes just for fun. Fruit and food everywhere. The feeling of full... the feeling of abundance.
I am thrilled that these pieces will adorn your walls and I hope they will bring you a visual sense of joy, day after day, year after year.
