Guest Feature: Katharine Sohn's Guide to the Cotswolds
One of my favorite parts of travel is meeting people along the way. Last summer, I met Katharine Sohn while she was working at Mèlisses during our retreat (I'm doing another one this upcoming Fall 2024!). We bonded over our love of travel, food, design and on and on! Katharine influenced our trip to The Cotswolds and I wanted to give you all a taste of her incredible recommendations. Katharine is a travel and lifestyle writer, photographer and creative consultant. She currently writes for House & Garden, Monocle, Konfekt Magazine, Condé Nast Traveller and Italy Segreta. Most recently, Katharine has launched her newsletter Cherry Press all about her life in the Cotswolds, plus lifestyle lists and lots of travel tips. I’ve found it a delightful and inspiring read! Please enjoy some of her recommendations and photos below! -Blakely

AN INSIDER’S GUIDE TO THE COTSWOLDS
By Katharine Sohn
The Cotswolds… it’s an area synonymous with green pastures new, rolling countryside hills and honey-hued homes. This part of the UK – that runs tip to toe from Chipping Camden all the way down to Bath – is a sweet spot for insanely good pubs, design destination hotels and endless lovely shops to mosey about in. So here is my little spotlight on the region – including the pretty villages to see, the stores to stock up in, the pubs to feast at and the hotels to bed down in.
A few of my favourite villages…
Stow-on-the-Wold
Burford
Painswick
Kingham
The Slaughters
Broadway
Nailsworth
Bath
And shops…
Hotels to sleep in…
And pubs-with-rooms…
The Swan in Ascott-under-Wychwood
Pubs and restaurants to feast at…
The Woolpack for full menu ordering
The Stump for the fluffiest sourdough pizzas
The Lamb Inn in Shipton-under-Wychwood for the most delicious pub grub
The Royal Oak in Ramsden for a serious Sunday lunch
D’Ambrosi Fine Foods for picnic provisions and deli goods
The New Inn for super-stuffed burgers
The Bell in Langford for their bone marrow flatbread and a pint
And some things to do…
Visit the Chippy Flower Farm for their seasonal cutting garden
See the roses at Kiftsgate Court Gardens
Spend a day in Bath – cardamom buns from Landrace Bakery, interiors/homeware at Berdoulat, peruse Persephone Books, spend the night at The Yard
